SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Trailblazers, the state’s only program successfully recruiting, training and electing the next generation of Republican legislative leaders, announced today it has elevated Dr. Alexandria Coronado (AD 65) to ‘Pathfinder’ status, the first level in the program’s three-tier structure. Dr. Coronado’s deep community roots and strong grassroots efforts in Orange County make her well positioned to win back a highly competitive seat, Assembly District 65.

Dr. Coronado is a lifelong educator, advocate and small business owner, who is passionate about making her community safer and standing up for hardworking taxpayers. She is nationally recognized for her extensive career and research in education.

“Dr. Coronado is the perfect candidate for Orange County because she has a steadfast commitment to taking on the status quo in Sacramento and representing the constituents of the 65th Assembly District.,” said Jessica Patterson, CEO of California Trailblazers. “With her impressive showing in the primary, Dr. Coronado put the Democratic incumbent on notice.”

Dr. Coronado received nearly 47 percent of the vote in the June primary election despite only spending $25,000 to the Democratic incumbent’s half a million.

After making history as the first Hispanic woman elected to the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees in 1998, Dr. Coronado then served on the Orange County Board of Education for eight years including two terms as president of the board. In 2010, she was elected to the Council of Urban Boards of Education Board of Directors where she helped produce three nationally-recognized research studies for ethnically and socio-economically diverse public schools. Dr. Coronado also owns an instructional music studio called Crown Music Studios.

Dr. Coronado has exceeded the Trailblazer program benchmarks to earn ‘Pathfinder’ status, including raising more than $100,000 without personal loans, identifying local volunteers and precinct captains, and establishing a website and social media presence. Additionally, Dr. Coronado achieved ‘Pathfinder’ having attended every candidate training to learn how to run a winning campaign. These elements ensure candidates are effectively prepared for the campaign trail and ready to lead once elected.

“While traffic in Orange County continues to worsen, the Democratic incumbent unapologetically supports forcing the gas tax hike on constituents even though it fails to solve the problem,” Patterson said. “Dr. Coronado will fight for hard-working Californians in Sacramento.”

Throughout 2018, California Trailblazers will continue to provide ongoing support to Republican legislative candidates. Candidates who seek to enter the second tier of the Trailblazers program—‘Rising Star’ status—must raise more than $250,000 in campaign contributions, create strong media, fundraising, coalition and finance plans, identify a campaign manager and participate in Trailblazers trainings to learn fundamental and sophisticated campaign strategies and tactics.
