SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Trailblazers, the state’s only program successfully recruiting, training and electing the next generation of Republican legislative leaders, announced today Rob Poythress (SD 12) has achieved ‘Pathfinder’ status, the first level in the program’s three-tier structure.
Poythress serves on the Madera County Board of Supervisors, representing the City of Madera west of Highway 99. As a lifelong Maderan with more than a decade of public service, including time as Mayor of Madera, Poythress has extensive experience on important regional issues.
“Rob Poythress is one of the most promising and impressive candidates running this cycle,” said Jessica Patterson, CEO of California Trailblazers. “The California Senate will greatly benefit from Supervisor Poythress’ expertise and passion for policy, including his expansive knowledge on agricultural and water-related issues.”
Poythress is currently serving in his first term on the Board of Supervisors, unseating incumbent Rick Farinelli by more than 30 percent of the vote. Before being elected at the county level, Poythress served two terms on the Madera City Council and one term as Madera’s first elected Mayor. In addition to being an elected official, Poythress is a respected businessman, serving as partner in Teco Hardware and Poythress Farms.
Poythress has exceeded the Trailblazer program benchmarks to earn ‘Pathfinder’ status, including raising more than $100,000 without personal loans, identifying local volunteers and precinct captains and establishing a website and social media presence. Additionally, Poythress achieved ‘Pathfinder’ having attended every candidate training to learn how to run a winning campaign. These elements ensure candidates are effectively prepared for the campaign trail and ready to lead once elected.
“Water rights and supply continue to be an important issue for families and businesses in the Central Valley,” Patterson said. “Supervisor Poythress will protect the voice of his constituents and ensure future policy gives their families and businesses the fuel to thrive.”
Throughout 2018, California Trailblazers will continue to provide ongoing support to Republican legislative candidates. Candidates who seek to enter the second tier of the Trailblazers program—‘Rising Star’ status—must raise more than $250,000 in campaign contributions, create strong media, fundraising, coalition and finance plans, identify a campaign manager and participate in Trailblazers trainings to learn fundamental and sophisticated campaign strategies and tactics.
